Frequently asked Questions
Questions about the registration
What does an IST do at the Jamboree?
An IST is a volunteer who helps make the Jamboree possible, much like staff at a camp. They are not part of the organizing team but provide support on-site.
This role can encompass many different tasks, such as leading workshops and activities on-site or even off-site, working in the staff kitchen, assisting in a sub-camp by distributing food and helping the sub-camp leader ensure everything runs smoothly. Some IST members may also work at the airport, guiding arriving groups to their correct locations.
As you can see, IST responsibilities can vary greatly, and these are just examples. A great aspect of this role is the opportunity to work in highly international teams, meeting Scouts from all around the world. The specific task assigned to each IST member will be determined later (Spring 2027), when they can indicate their preferences, though the final allocation is decided by the organizers, and we have no influence over it.
IST members do not cook for themselves, as there is a canteen run by ISTs where meals are provided. They typically sleep in a sub-camp with other Luxembourgish ISTs, meaning they are not near their group’s participants, but can still visit them.
Summary: Being an IST is an amazing experience, but it is quite different from the experience of a troop leader.
Why does my registration still need to be confirmed?
We need to ensure that there is enough space in a unit or patrol, and that enough leaders are available. Additionally, the organizers must confirm the number of units Luxembourg is allowed to send.
For ISTs, there is a rule stating that we cannot send more adults than youth to the Jamboree. This criterion also needs to be fulfilled.
Why is the price for a scout camp so expensive?
The camp budget includes three items:
-
Camp participation: €1500 (participant + leader), €1400 (IST)
-
Transport: €250
-
Miscellaneous + reserve: €350
Camp participation:
The Jamboree fee is 6400 PLN for participants and leaders, 5760 PLN for IST. This corresponds to approximately €1500 and €1400 respectively. Since the exchange rate fluctuates, we need to allow for a small buffer.
Transport:
We plan to travel by coach from Luxembourg to Gdańsk. As we are still two years away from the camp and don’t yet know how many participants we’ll need to transport, we haven’t set a fixed price and have budgeted accordingly.
Miscellaneous + reserve:
It’s not easy to have fixed prices two years before a camp, so a reserve is needed in case of unforeseen events. Additionally, organizing such a contingent involves certain financial requirements. These include costs for preparatory activities, parent meetings, scarves and badges, as well as account fees and HOC meetings.
This last point involves many unknowns, and it’s important to be well-prepared to handle them. It’s also where the greatest potential for saving money lies. We’ll do our best to reduce these costs during the organization process.
Post-camp:
The costs of a post-camp trip are not yet included. We’re currently working on a concept to make such a trip possible for those interested, ideally at a fair price.
